Betty Carrington

Betty Carrington was born on Texas Downs station in Western Australia, and she spent much of her childhood in the nearby Turkey Creek (Warmun) area, where her father worked as a police tracker. After the closure of the police station, her family returned to Texas Downs. Carrington began painting in 1998, shortly after the establishment of the Warmun Art Centre. Her work often features the Darrajayin hills, part of her father's country, and Dreaming sites from her mother’s land, Ngarranggarni. Historical events such as the Mistake Creek massacre also appear in her paintings. Carrington's use of natural ochres and pigments creates a distinctive colour palette, rich in pinks, mauves, greens, and yellows.
