Ignatia Djanghara (also cited as Ignatia Jangarra), born around 1930, is best know for her Wandjina paintings, used to represent ancestral rain spirits tied to the creation stories of the Wunambal people. Most of her paintings were done on bark or coolamon using natural ochres. Ignatia began painting later in life, around the mid 1980s, sometimes collaborating with her husband Waigan Djanghara, who maintained Wandjina images on cave walls. Together, they gathered ochres from local creek beds and worked on preserving traditions through their art. Ignatia's work often features turtle and snake totemic animals and is notable for her use of rounded eyes and intricate detailing.
