- Hayward Veal, born in Eaglemont, Victoria, in 1913, began painting classes at the age of seventeen and later studied under Max Meldrom in Melbourne. In 1937, he held his debut exhibition in Melbourne before relocating to Sydney. There, he founded his own art school and served as an art critic on ABC radio and for a daily newspaper. Recognised for his contributions, he became a Fellow of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales in 1940. In 1951, Veal moved to the United Kingdom and lived there for the subsequent 17 years. During this time, he showcased his work in London, New York, and Rome. He returned to Sydney in 1968, the same year he passed away.
