- Artwork story
- Clifford had lived away from his country for long periods of time since first paintings at Papunya in the early 1970s. His birthplace was at Napperby, on Anmatjerre land. Napperby Lake or Larumba, near the border of the Tanami and Simpson Deserts, is a saltwater lake which flows along a series of claypans, occasionally disappearing beneath the surface. The Lake belongs to the Tjapaltjarri and Tjungurrayi sub sections of Anmatjerre society. The image in this painting is of the region around Mount Wedge. It depicts all the floodwater that comes up to there from Papunya, Mount Liebig, and Haasts Bluff to the North and North-west of Alice Springs.
