Jean Baptiste Apuatimi (also known as Pulukatu) was a highly acclaimed Indigenous Australian artist from the Tiwi Islands. Born in 1940 on Melville Island, she became an internationally recognised painter, carver, and printmaker before passing away in February 2013. She was mentored by her late husband, Declan Apuatimi, a pre-eminent Tiwi artist. : Her work focused on Jilamara (traditional Tiwi body painting design). It is distinct for its delicate use of natural earth ochres (red, yellow, white, and black). She combined lines (minga) and dots (pwanga) into intricate geometric shapes.
