Artwork story
Lilly Kelly was born at Haasts Bluff NT in the late 1940’s and began painting in the early 1980s. Her paintings are of her country, especially of the sand hills (Tali) around Mount Liebig. They are usually done in white (sometimes, red or yellow) dots on black background, presenting an almost three-dimensional illusion of space and depth. Some rarer examples of her work are painted in two colours (mainly white and red) on black background. Lily Kelly Napangardi is recognised as one of the most innovative in contemporary Aboriginal Indigenous art.
