- Although it is uncertain whether this practice had any ceremonial history, it was common in north western Australia to decorate the seed pod or nut of the boab tree with stories for amusement and education of the young. The beautiful full shape of the nut and its natural brown surface provides a perfect medium on which the artist finely scratches his pattern.
