Artwork story: The Country Madigan has painted is Southwest of Warmun, Violet Valley. The large hill in the centre is Baloowa, an important place in the Gija Ngarrangkarni (dreaming). On the large hill sits old man, who looks out over below. 'He be out there, all the time' Madigan says. 'People come and he tells them where they can go, and what to watch out for. He sorts them out. In the old day, he used to spear people who went to places they weren't allowed to go. But not now. That old man lets the old people go places where young people can't.' The two smaller shapes in the painting are caves, where people used to take bush plum, yam and sugarbag. The lines in the corners of the painting are places where people went fishing and hunting.
