- Artwork story
- Paddy Jaminji's portrait is part of Peter Thomas's series of portraits of the first-generation painters of the East Kimberley. In 1977 Jaminji was chiefly responsible for the paintings used in the first Krill Krill ceremony, which came from a dream of his classificatory nephew Rover Thomas. The boards were painted in earth pigments on recycled timber and carried on the dancers' shoulders. They set the pattern for East Kimberley painting: large blocks of single colour edged in round white dots, rounded hills, and stylised boab trees. The portrait is built in the same way, with an unbroken field of ochre and black forms ringed in white dots, among them tall bottle-shaped forms that suggest boabs.
