- In Indigenous Australian art, the digging stick (known as karlangu in the Warlpiri language) is a crucial symbol representing women's power, survival, and traditional roles. The Digging Stick Dreaming (Kana-kurlangu Jukurrpa) is a deeply significant creation story that centres on ceremonial sites and women gathering food. In this small work the artist has sown the digging sticks which have been used to dig up a row of yams, or bush potatoes, which are now ready to be cooked and eaten.
