BIRPAI ART WORKSHOP (2012)

Collaborative Project with Port Macquarie Base Hospital, Steven Culley & Birpai Land Council

A workshop held on January 14-15, 2012, brought together thirteen Aboriginal participants selected by the Birpai Land Council. The workshop aimed to heal and resolve conflicts within local Aboriginal families while contributing artwork for use in building works at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.

The event was highly productive, resulting in abundant artwork for architects and consultants to incorporate into all three stages of the base hospital expansion project. Participants were positively impacted by the health service's outreach and felt a deep sense of ownership over the project.

Participants: Adrian Newstead (convener), Steven Culley (artist); Architects: Graeme Spencer (HASSEL); PMBH Jeff Pattinson (observer); Participants: William Moran (Uncle Billo) Joan Holten (Auntie Joan) Jason Holten, Wayne Holten, Marion Holten (Auntie Marion), Reta Latimore, Eddie Davie, Ashley Davies, Patricia McInherny, Paul O’Donahue, Rhonda Radley, Karinya Toomey, Leah Bale, Venue; Birpai Land Council.
