Artwork story
Munurrapin was taught to paint by his father's brother, Narritjin. This work was produced at Djarrakpi in 1997 with the assistance of his wife Balpawana #2.
It depicts Marrngu, the ancestral possum, climbing the sacred manifestation of the Marawili tree. The Marawili marks Djarrakpi, found by the ancestral Guwark people whom Marrngu acted as messenger and land scout. The miny'tji, or sacred clan design, above the Marawili depicts the sand of Djarrakpi flowing from the dunes to the beach where Guyun the cleansing sand crabs reside.
