Jeannette Lloyd Jones is a well-respected and exhibited photographer who is also a regular visitor to India. She was amazed at the relationship between the people and their animals which she had never seen anywhere else.

She visited Christine Townend at the Help in Suffering animal shelter in Jaipur and her admiration for the work at the shelter began her involvement in Working For Animals. Her photographs have been exhibited in Australia with proceeds going back to India and the animal shelters.

Born in 1962 in Patangarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jangarh Singh Shyam was a member of the Pardhan Gond tribe, one of the largest and oldest tribes in India known for their rich storytelling tradition and vividly detailed pictorial narratives.

Shyam is widely acknowledged for his role in bringing the traditional art forms of the Gond community to international prominence. His art is characterized by its intricate use of line and color, typically depicting flora, fauna, and gods from local myths. His work often featured dense, patterned textures and a vibrant palette, with animals and nature being recurrent subjects.

WFA founder Christine Townend has long painted and exhibited, in addition to writing and poetry.

With her extraordinary track record in both Australia and India in support of animals, and her dedication and love of them, it is no surprise that they are her inspiration.

Townend went to India in 1974 and quite simply “fell in love with it."

Subjects of her paintings include animals such as elephants, camels and dogs.
